A Comprehensive Dental Examination Every Year

When you schedule a comprehensive dental examination you can find out what is going on with your mouth. You can also find out if it is affecting your overall health and wellbeing.

Why a Comprehensive Dental Exam is So Important

A regular dental checkup doesn’t always include a cancer screening. When you call my dental practice for a comprehensive dental examination, an oral cancer screening is included in the visit.

What is a Comprehensive Dental Examination?

During your comprehensive dental examination with my dental clinic in Downtown Portland x-rays and digital pictures will be taken using 360 degree panoramic x-rays and intra oral cameras. This will detect any abnormalities. During the examination, I will also check your teeth for new cavities, your old restorations for damage and your gums for disease.

Also during the examination, I will check the insides of your cheeks, your tongue, your gums, and the roof of your mouth along with the back of your throat for lumps, or unusual bumps. If I should see something that doesn’t look right, I will take a biopsy before sending it off to the lab for diagnosis.

Why Comprehensive Dental Examinations Should Be Annual

You should schedule a comprehensive dental exam once a year. Oral cancer can be cured or controlled with early detection. Many changes can occur in 12 months. With early detection, your chances of survival are much higher.
