Not every smile transformation requires a full set of veneers.
One of the most important parts of cosmetic dentistry isn't how much treatment is done — it's knowing how little is needed to achieve the right result. This case is a clean example of how a focused, conservative approach can dramatically improve a smile without over-treating healthy teeth.
This patient wasn't looking for a "perfect Hollywood smile." His concern was simple and relatable: he felt self-conscious about his two front teeth.
Over time, the central incisors (#8 and #9) had developed:
While the rest of his smile was acceptable to him, these two teeth drew unwanted attention and made him hesitant to smile confidently.
In many cases like this, a full set of 6–10 porcelain veneers could create a more uniform smile. But that wasn't the goal here.
The patient liked his natural teeth overall — he just didn't want those two front teeth to stand out. Instead of over-treating, we focused on:
Orthodontics and more extensive veneer treatment were discussed but not pursued; neither would directly address the patient's primary concern.
Teeth whitening was completed first to establish a brighter baseline. This allowed the final restorations to be matched naturally to the surrounding teeth instead of forcing the existing teeth to match new restorations.
A facially generated Digital Smile Design (DSD) was created to evaluate proportions, symmetry, the relationship to the patient's facial features, and functional considerations.
A mockup was then used to preview the outcome and confirm both aesthetics and function were dialed in before any irreversible treatment.
Two lithium disilicate (Emax) veneers were placed on teeth #8 and #9. Minimal tooth preparation was performed, the old bonding material was removed, and the final contours were refined for symmetry and harmony with the adjacent natural teeth.
The veneers were carefully matched to the adjacent natural teeth to ensure a seamless blend.
Total treatment time: 3 visits — planning & mockup, preparation & impressions, and final delivery.

By focusing on just two teeth, the result is subtle — but impactful:
The patient's smile now looks natural, healthy, and cohesive without appearing overdone. Most importantly, he feels comfortable smiling again without drawing attention to those two teeth.
More dentistry does not always lead to a better outcome. The best results come from careful diagnosis, thoughtful planning, and conservative execution. Sometimes, treating just one or two teeth — when done correctly — can transform an entire smile.
This is the philosophy behind every smile makeover at Centerport: treat what needs to be treated, preserve what's healthy, and design the result around the patient's actual face — not a generic ideal.
These veneers are maintained just like natural teeth:
With proper care, they are designed to provide long-term durability and aesthetics.
If you've been told you need extensive treatment, it may be worth exploring more conservative options. Every smile is different — and the right approach isn't always the most aggressive one.
A proper cosmetic dentistry consultation starts with diagnosis, not a sales pitch. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Wang to discuss whether a conservative approach might be right for your smile.
