DENTAL SEALANTS
Prevention for Pit & Fissure Cavities
Cavities are most likely to develop within the narrow grooves and pits of your teeth. Sometimes these areas are unreachable for the bristles of your toothbrush. In order to prevent plaque accumulation (and consequential tooth decay) we offer dental sealants as part of our general dentistry services to protect your smile. Sealants are a simple clear coating that fills the grooves of your teeth to create a smoother surface that is easier to clean.
SEALANTS FOR KIDS & ADULTS
Although we most often offer sealants for children, adults who have vulnerable tooth grooves can benefit from sealants as well. For children, sealants are usually applied as a preventative measure after their permanent teeth have erupted. This helps novice brushers avoid potential decay on the teeth that they will have for a lifetime. Dental sealants are plastic resins that bond and harden in the deep grooves on your tooth’s surface. Sealants can greatly reduce the risk for plaque buildup in these areas. While sealants can make brushing your teeth easier and more effective, they are never a substitute for routine dental hygiene and visiting your dentist on a regular basis.
HOW LONG DO TOOTH SEALANTS LAST?
Applying sealants is a quick and painless procedure. They are designed to offer protection for three to five years, and sometimes longer. Since a dental sealant can only provide protection when it is fully intact, make sure you let us know if your sealants come off. We can schedule you for a quick appointment to have it resealed.
